RX 400h Eligible for Exemption from the London Congestion Charge

We are pleased to announce that following extensive discussions with Transport for London (TfL) and PowerShift, the GS 450h has joined the RX 400h by being classified as a Band 4 vehicle on the PowerShift Register. Subject to the customer registering their vehicle with TfL, the both the GS 450h and RX 400h receive a 100% discount from the London Congestion Charge.

Since the launch of RX 400h, corporate buyers have benefited from the low CO2 emissions and low Benefit in Kind tax charges that Lexus' Hybrid technology can deliver. Now, both Private and Corporate buyers can benefit from exemption to the London Congestion Charge that is worth up to £2000 in a complete year (£8 daily charge, 250 days a year). Together with the inherent quality, refinement and performance of both vehicles, these benefits contribute to a class-leading proposition.

When discussing this with customers it is important that we take an open and customer centric approach to explaining the exemption. It is important that customers are informed that the current rules are under review by TfL and that the RX 400h and GS 450h may have their discount withdrawn as a consequence of this review. Furthermore, given the degree of uncertainty please do not actively promote the vehicles as being exempt from the London Congestion Charge.

Procedure to Gain Exemption

To qualify for the exemption, the customer will have to register with TfL. Full details of the application process and forms can be found on the TfL website www.cclondon.com (the current link for the application form and guidance notes for alternative fuelled vehicles is www.cclondon.com/downloads/Drivers.pdf). Alternatively, the TfL helpline will be able to send out the forms, and can be contacted on 0845 900 1234.

When completing section 3 of the form:

  • The 'Engine / Conversion' is 'Lexus RX 400h' or 'Lexus GS 450h'

  • The 'Fuel Type' is 'HYB'

  • The RX 400 and GS 450h are classified as a Band 4 vehicle. Tick the box confirming that the vehicle is listed as an approved vehicle type in Band 4 of the PowerShift Register.

When completing section 4 of the form:

  • Centre name and address should be entered in the section requesting details of the supplier / converter.

When completing section 5 of the form:
