High performance and low fuel consumption, historically a paradox, are defining features of the Lexus RX 400h. It is the only high performance SUV in the world that brings together a petrol engine and electric motors.
Its low emissions mean the tax band for the RX 400h is just 22% (2006/07). Comparing extremely favourably to the 35% tax band of all other premium SUVs. This represents a potential tax saving of over £200 per month for company car drivers.
At low speeds, for example when driving around town, it just uses electricity (provided there is sufficient charge in the batteries), generating zero CO2 emissions and almost zero fuel consumption. When cruising at high speeds it engages the powerful 3.3 litre petrol engine. And when you want to accelerate it harnesses both systems, delivering exhilarating, smooth power and capable of achieving 0-62mph in just 7.6 seconds.
Even when braking, the energy that would otherwise dissipate into the environment is captured and recycled to continuously charge the battery pack (for use later), minimising waste and keeping emissions low.
