The Women’s British Open broke new ground in 2007 by taking place at the ‘Home of Golf’ on the Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland for the first time, and Lexus was proud to be The Official Car of The Championships. With around 70,000 spectators attending at a course that has already hosted 27 Open Championships and many other professional men’s tournaments, the field included 2006 Champion Sherri Steinhauer, Annika Sorenstam, Michelle Wie, Se-Ri Pak and Karrie Webb - However the winner was Mexican world number one Lorena Ochoa who led from  start to finish to win her first major title.

Broadcast to 90 countries worldwide from Thursday 2nd to Sunday 5th August, 2007, The Women’s British Open had a record-breaking prize fund of £1,050,000 (over US$2 million) and featured 150 of the world’s top women golfers. Established in 1976 to serve as the women’s equivalent of the men’s Open Championship, it became an official LPGA major in 2001 and is now one of the most prestigious events on the women’s tour.
