IMPACT PROTECTION

Achieving an immensely strong and rigid body structure presents specific challenges when designing a sports convertible. From the outset, the body shell of the SC 430 was designed and engineered to meet the unique demands on structural performance of a convertible.

Reinforced side impact beams, an impact-absorbing structure and front and rear crumple zones all contribute to safety performance. The front windscreen pillars are significantly strengthened to meet the special rollover safety requirements of a convertible. High-tensile steel roll bars are integrated within each of the rear head restraints.

A number of specific measures ensure the SC 430’s resolute strength. Beneath the floor, for example, there are eight additional braces that increase the body’s torsional rigidity by 40%. Large cross-section rocker panels and side members, designed to provide additional reinforcement, also contribute to the structural integrity, whether the roof is up or down.
